Starosta's compositions were shaped with influence from blues, heavy metal, and classical music. He draws from the rich tones and simplistic characteristics of early American blues and the industrial timbres and tribal rhythms of heavy metal music. These roots give the work gravity and realism. Combining facets of these genres with the artistry of classical music and the abstract tools supplied by serial and twelve tone techniques has allowed Starosta to develop a voice that is unique in modern expression.
